In a 28-second video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Melania Trump stressed, “Individual freedom is a fundamental principle that I safeguard.” She added, “Without a doubt, there is no room for compromise when it comes to this essential right that all women possess from birth.”
The former first lady emphasized the meaning of “my body, my choice,” raising questions about personal autonomy. This statement follows The Guardian‘s report that Melania Trump passionately defends abortion rights in her upcoming memoir. Her remarks could deepen political fault lines in her husband’s re-election campaign.

“It is imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference of having children, based on their own convictions, free from any intervention or pressure from the government,” Trump reportedly writes. She further asserts that no one other than the woman herself should decide what happens to her body, equating restrictions on abortion to denying women control over their lives.
Melania Trump’s support for abortion rights contrasts sharply with Donald Trump’s stance. Throughout his presidency, he appointed three conservative Supreme Court justices instrumental in overturning Roe v. Wade, the 1973 decision that had protected federal abortion rights for nearly 50 years. As a result of the ruling, 20 states have either banned or imposed severe restrictions on abortion access.
The Democratic campaign, led by nominee Kamala Harris, quickly responded to Melania Trump’s comments. Harris’ spokeswoman, Sarafina Chitika, expressed disappointment in Donald Trump’s policies: “Sadly for women across America, Mrs. Trump’s husband firmly disagrees with her… threatening their health, freedom, and lives.”
